How to Get Ahead in Life

This isn’t a post where I’m going to tell you what I’ve done to become successful, because well, I’m still on my path and not quite there yet. But if I have learned anything on my 21 years on earth, it is that each individual should have their beliefs, morals and values, and they should do what makes them happy. I am a student attending college, and throughout the years I have struggled with knowing where to go and how to look past the present. I’ve always been single focused, and my focus is on the now. Once I sat down and thought about where I see myself, I’ve made a two year plan. Now I know two years doesn’t sound like much, however, it is a lot for me. Once I have graduated, I will enter the workforce in a pretty decent job. Now, I only use the word decent because it is not a career in my field of study. Yet. But I plan to get there.

On to the important stuff. How you can get ahead in your own life is to 1. Set goals. 2. Have your own set of beliefs and values. 3. Be yourself, because you are your own brand. 4. Be determined and do not give up. 5. Be accepting when things don’t go as planned. And lastly, 6. Be content with where you are and what you have, because if you keep comparing your life to others, you will never be happy.

I have undergone my own steps, and although I’m not at my goal yet, I am confident I will get there.

Travelling

“Travel, in the younger sort, is a part of education; in the elder, a part of experience.” – ItalynFrancis Bacon

Never before has a truer quote been spoken. In my opinion, travelling is important in order to expand the mind. I believe travelling to be influential to an individuals personality. Through travel, one is exposed to rich culture in a world they might not have known prior. Culture is an important aspect to society, especially in a ethnically diverse country such as Canada. I find there are still individuals today that are closed minded to other ethnicity’s, and religions. However, in today’s society, this multicultural state is rapidly becoming the norm. The meaning of the above quote is stating that through travelling, the younger generations are educated on cultural perspectives, and the elder generations, though they already have knowledge, are gaining a momentous experience. Travelling to me is a valuable opportunity that I choose to embrace at every occasion. Such as the above quote, travel can be a tool not only used to educate, but to also experience.
